Top Used Cars of 2012

Although only early into 2012, certain trends remain in the used car market. With increasing fuel prices and nervousness regarding the current economic climate, buyers are looking for economical and reliable motoring. Taxation class is another consideration for many. Therefore Hybrids are becoming increasingly popular in urban environments as their emissions are extremely low. The benefit to the driver is a low taxation class, exemption from congestion charges and low running costs.

Green Credentials

The Toyota Prius has lead the way and there are now plenty used examples to choose from. The Toyota brand is synonymous with reliability and the Prius delivers. The cabin comes well equipped offering features found on more expensive cars as standard such as H.U.D. and optional extras like satellite navigation and even a solar panel on the roof, making the car even more economical. With careful research it is possible to find a fully loaded example for small money. A great family car.

Small Hatchback

In the hot hatch category, the Volkswagen Golf remains a popular choice but demand for them has kept prices high and it appears that buyers are opting for alternatives such as the Ford Focus in greater numbers. Whilst not as refined as the VW, their depreciation makes them a viable option as a used buy. Though dated it is still a good car. Shopping around will secure a low mileage, young example for a lot less money than a comparable VW. Used car dealers can’t get enough of them, such is the demand.

MPV

Used car dealers are reporting the Vauxhall Zafira as a popular choice for families. With a spacious interior and decent level of equipment including the clever multi-changing seating, this MPV is a worthy contender. It’s easy to see why it is trending as a top used buy.

Affordable Luxury

In the mid range the BMW 3 series remains as popular as ever, offering an array of models to choose from. BMW’s renowned build quality coupled with its excellent interior ergonomics making this a real drivers car. It has everything you could need in a car. Comfort, power, reasonable fuel economy, reliability and heritage. It is a car that you look forward to driving rather than a means of transportation. Buying a good used one with a service history really makes sense and the used market certainly reflects this. The roads are full of BMW’s for a reason.

3 Series Main Rival

The Audi A4 offers the same level of refinement and equipment. Used car dealers are reporting a high demand for these cars at present with the diesel version being the most economical and a wide choice of petrol engines for drivers looking for more performance.
